Real Estate is consumer driven business. You get to pick who you want to do business with and we like that. What most consumers don't understand is the concept of agency. In other words, Realtors are paid by representing either the buyer or seller or in some cases both. How the agent is paid is based on whom they represent.
Here's an example:
Joe P. Flash, homeowner want to have Mary B. Good, agent sell his home.
Agent Mary now works for Joe. Hazel Walnut wants to buy Joe's home. Hazel can work with Agent Mary and Agent Mary can work for both parties with permission or Hazel can work with any other agent.
Here's where it can get hard for the agent - Let's say Hazel comes to Agent Anita and looks at Joe's home and 8 others. Anita spends 2 weeks working with Hazel.
Hazel goes to church and her friend's sister is an agent and Hazel has her write the contract on Joe's home. Agent Anita will get nothing for her work. So here is the rule of thumb we advise:
Use an agent you are comfortable with and stick with them.
